Burning the Christmas Tree

This post documents a long-standing family tradition:  the burning of the Christmas tree, which is a lot more exciting than taking all the ornaments off and putting them away.

Craig prepares to light the tree.
5:47 p.m
Craig lights the top, but it soon goes out.
50 seconds later
Bruce tries to light both sides.
58 seconds later
Quick!  Get out of the way!

1 second later
The tree is consumed.
1 minute, 8 seconds later
Craig checks something...to see if it's still hot?!

1 minute later.  Total time elapsed is 2 minutes 54 seconds!
A great beginning to a new year.

I love (and also miss) this great tradition. We have a fake tree which looks great, but probably wouldn't burn as impressively. It would probably just melt, smell bad, and make a big mess. But, what if it had an accelerant?
